Cardiology Fiesta in San Antonio - Update on Cardiac Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques

Program Overview
This program is designed to update the attendees with state of the art information regarding invasive and noninvasive diagnostic as well as therapeutic techniques. The combination of in depth reviews coupled with small focused workshops will provide the participants with the information necessary to apply these techniques in their own practice setting. Each attendee is encouraged to bring interesting cases, cines or echocardiograms for discussion and review. A comprehensive syllabus will be provided to each attendee.

This year we've added new, state-of-the-art audio and visual capabilities for an enhanced program for all attendees and the full program will be taped and a DVD copy of the program provided to each attendee.

Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the mechanisms of plaque formation
  • Evaluate the New technologies for imaging atherosclerosis
  • Assess the role of new pharmacotherapy for treatment of hypertension and heart failure
  • Review the Use of Natiuretic peptides in diagnosis and treatment of heart failure
  • Understand the clinical indications for anti-tachycardic therapy
  • Review the guidelines for treatment of valvular heart disease
  • Assess the new technologies for treating congenital heart disease

Accreditation
The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council sponsorship of The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) and The University of Texas Health Science Center Communications. The SCAI is accredited by the ACGME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions designates this continuing medical education activity for 17.5 credit hours in Category I of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.

Fee
A registration fee of $480 is charged for members of SCAI and the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology. Members who register by January 1, 2004 have a reduced fee of $395. Non-members of SCAI and the Texas Chapter of the American College of Cardiology pay a fee of $545. A reduced registration fee of $345 is available for Fellows-in-Training, Residents, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Technologists, and Full-Time Students if application is accompanied by statement from applicant's Department Head regarding status. Continental breakfasts, coffee breaks, and lunches are included as part of the registration fee.

Lodging
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Westin La Cantera Resort located at 16641 La Cantera Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78256. A discounted rate has been reserved for attendees of this conference at $229.00 single or double occupancy (per night) plus tax. To reserve this discounted room rate, reservations must be confirmed by Wednesday, April 6, 2004. Reservations made after this date will be subject to space and rate availability. Early registration is strongly advised as most hotels in San Antonio fill up very quickly during Fiesta.

Cancellations
A full refund will be given provided that written cancellation is received four weeks prior to the opening date of the program. A processing fee of $75 will be charged for all cancellations received after this time. The cost of the meal functions will also be deducted from the refund unless the cancellation is received 48 hours in advance of the program. Fees will not be refunded for no-shows.

In the unlikely event that a program is canceled, the CollegeGaffney EventsUniversity of Texas Health Science Center is responsible only for full refund of the registration fee and not for transportation or hotel accommodations.
